The US Embassy continues to support the freedom of the press and provide assistance for the development of professional and independent media in Bosnia and Herzegovina, ambassador Eric Nelson said in his message on the World Press Freedom Day that is marked on May 3, urging the authorities to create an environment where media can function free of pressure and intimidation.

“My team and I closely follow and are fully aware of the hardships that many journalists face in Bosnia and Herzegovina as they report on issues and work to hold the authorities accountable, and keep the citizens informed,” Nelson said as he wished all BiH media professionals “strength and continued courage as they play one of the most crucial roles in the democracy.”

The ambassador also noted that the World Press Freedom Day “calls our attention to the government's responsibility to support press freedom and create an environment in which media can function free of pressure, intimidation and fear.”

“The role of media professionals is all more important as the entire world faces unprecedented challenges. We stand together to see the situation stabilize and return to normal as soon as possible,” he added.
