Republika Srpska (RS) entity President Milorad Dodik’s secessionist threats are threatening not only Bosnia’s but the stability of the Western Balkans, US Embassy to Sarajevo said after the President of Bisnia’s Serb-dominated entity said in an interview with "Nacional" that the RS secession is not the plan of its leadership, but that there are now 10 to 15 countries that have expressed their willingness to support this entity in that intention. “Milorad Dodik's separatist rhetoric and threats of secession from Bosnia and Herzegovina represent anti-Dayton actions, dangerous not only for the stability and security of BiH but also for the stability and security of the entire Western Balkan region,” US Embassy in BiH said.

They further state that precisely because of this statement, and his anti-Dayton activities and attempts to undermine the state of Bosnia and Herzegovina, the USA sanctioned Milorad Dodik.

“According to the Constitution of Bosnia and Herzegovina, neither the entity nor any other lower administrative unit has the right to secede. Mr Dodik’s delusions are a dangerous move away from the peaceful, democratic and prosperous future that the citizens of Bosnia and Herzegovina, including those living in Republika Srpska, want and deserve. The United States has always supported and continues to support the territorial integrity, sovereignty and multi-ethnic character of BiH”, the Embassy concluded.
