The United States Embassy urged Bosnia to diversify its energy supply and harmonize its energy policy with the EU after N1 asked for a comment regarding media reports of possible US sanctions after being connected to the TurkStream on April 1st.
The US Embassy stated that the United States continues to encourage other countries to diversify their energy supply to strengthen its energy security strategy, which also includes the integration of renewable energy sources, energy conservation and energy policy reform.
“We welcome the efforts of the EU and the Energy Community to identify key regional energy infrastructure projects and urge that cooperation continues on these projects, especially the ‘Southern Interconnection’ natural gas pipeline that would connect BiH to the gas network through Croatia. We appeal to countries aspiring to EU membership, such as BiH, to harmonize their energy policies with EU policies,” the US Embassy told N1.
Full compliance with the Energy Community Treaty, including the adoption of state law on electricity and natural gas, would be of great benefit to BiH through regulation of the natural gas sector, price transparency for consumers, and support for much-needed investments in the energy sector, they said.
