"American sanctions can be applied to any institution, including banks, whether privately or publicly owned, that provide material support to individuals or companies under US sanctions. Financial institutions have a responsibility to ensure that their internal monitoring policies and risk management procedures take into account all applicable sanction policies," stated the US Embassy's Public Affairs Office in a response to N1.

They emphasize that “the United States will use all available enforcement mechanisms to respond to those engaging in destabilizing, anti-Dayton actions.”

“The position of the United States is clear: ‘disassociation’ of Republika Srpska from Bosnia and Herzegovina is another term for secession and as such is unconstitutional and anti-Dayton. Bosnia and Herzegovina is not a community of states, and Republika Srpska is neither a state nor has it ever been. ‘Disassociation’ or secession of Republika Srpska is dangerous, irresponsible, and threatens the territorial integrity, sovereignty, and multiethnic character of Bosnia and Herzegovina. These are key interests of the US that we will defend, including holding accountable those who participate in destabilizing and anti-Dayton activities,” the US Embassy stated.
