US investment to transform BiH energy sector: AAFS infrastructure and energy to lead Southern Interconnection

Minister Lakic confirmed that the project gained significant momentum in November last year when governing parties agreed to prioritize the pipeline, even including the specific investor’s name directly into the Law on the Southern Interconnection. The legal text, recently adopted by the FBiH Government, outlines the main gas pipeline route along with strategic branches to Grude, Gornji Vakuf-Uskoplje, Donji Vakuf, and Capljina, as well as a new route from Kladanj to Tuzla.

"This begins the gasification of the industrial heart of Bosnia and Herzegovina," Lakic stated, noting that the upcoming signing of the contract between the Federation of BiH and the American investor will be the definitive turning point. He also clarified that while the project is entirely foreign-funded, meaning the FBiH Government will not participate financially, Energoinvest will maintain its role as the primary gas importer.

Joseph Flynn, President of AAFS, described the initiative as a strategic global investment for the United States, aimed at boosting industrial capacities and building a long-term partnership with the Federation of BiH. AAFS Vice President Jesse Binnall further emphasized the geopolitical weight of the move, noting that energy security is a priority for the administration of US President Donald Trump.

The project has reportedly secured broad political backing, with company director Amer Bekan confirming support from both the government and opposition parties. The Law on the Southern Interconnection is set to be considered by both houses of the FBiH Parliament in the coming days.
