The US government will help local actors in Bosnia and Herzegovina to present their offers in tourism and to attract investors, the US Ambassador Eric Nelson said on Monday addressing a webinar on tourism recovery in the post-Covid world.
The US will provide the support through its USAID international development agency.
Ambassador Nelson stressed Bosnia and Herzegovina was rich in nature with its mountains, rivers, waterfalls as well as excellent food and towns such as Trebinje and Pocitelj.
BiH must share with the rest of the world what it has to offer, he stressed.
The ambassador also said the country should take steps and adjust to the post-Covid world, recalling that the number of tourists in 2020 dropped by 80 percent and that thousands lost their jobs in the tourism sector.
Coronavirus pandemic had a devastating effect in the whole world including Bosnia and Herzegovina, stressed USAID director for Bosnia and Herzegovina Nancy Eslick, adding that the investments in the tourism sector will open new jobs and strengthen the economy.
The five-year project worth 20 million dollars is aimed to support the tourism-driven economic development and to promote the social harmony through natural activation of the rich cultural heritage and nature of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
Bosnia's Foreign Trade and Economic Relations Minister Stasa Kosarac stressed BiH owned the potential to develop tourism, given the significant increase in arrivals during the period prior to the pandemic.
