"Una is the only one free," proclaimed the Foundation Studio for Social Changes - ACT, as they shared the uplifting news that the construction permit for the small hydropower plant "Una-mlin," located at the source of the Una River, has been officially cancelled. The locals, who had passionately opposed the project with numerous protests, can now celebrate this victory.

The Ministry of Spatial Planning, Construction, and State Property, citing the Law on General Administrative Procedure, declared the permit for the “Una-mlin” hydropower plant null and void. The decision also nullifies subsequent documents, including a name change for the investor in November 2018 and an extension of the construction permit issued in October 2019 by Zadar County, as stated on the ministry’s official website.

Back in August, citizens, activists, and representatives of various organizations staged protests against constructing the “Una-mlin” plant. They vowed not to give up their fight to protect the river, and now their perseverance has paid off.

During the protests, activists committed to being present at the river every day, standing guard to protect the Una. The renowned singer Darko Rundek even joined their efforts, cutting short his vacation to lend his support. Rundek made his message clear by adapting the lyrics of one of his songs to: “I Una am your son.”

The ACT Foundation expressed deep gratitude to everyone who contributed to preserving the natural beauty of the Una River.

“We extend our congratulations to all the activists, especially those from the Una Srb and MojSrb Associations, who courageously and relentlessly fought to defend the Una. It has been an honour to stand alongside you in protecting this magical river,” the foundation said.
