The Agency for the Adriatic Sea Watershed has issued a warning about heavy rainfall expected on Wednesday, October 9.
According to the Agency, rainfall between 30 and 60 litres per square meter is forecasted, which could lead to rising water levels at most hydrological stations in the Adriatic watershed. This is particularly concerning for floodplain areas of TMT (Tihaljina, Mlade, Trebizat) and the middle and lower Neretva River with its tributaries.
The warning is especially significant due to the ongoing situation in flood-affected areas, with potential risks of flash floods and landslides. Municipalities and cities at risk include Konjic, Jablanica, Mostar, Capljina, Grude, Ljubuski, Siroki Brijeg, and Posusje.
Authorities are urged to closely monitor conditions and act in line with the Federation (FBiH) entity’s Operational Flood Defense Plan. Services involved in protective and rescue efforts should take extra precautions.
Civil protection services should inform residents in areas without protective water infrastructure about the dangers of rising water levels and increased flow speeds. Timely alerts with safety instructions are essential to help minimize potential damage from flooding.
