From the moment NASA's rover landed on the surface of Mars' Jezero crater on Wednesday evening, the name of Bosnia's Jezero municipality, entered the history of this exploration of the Red Planet. The municipality is located on the entity line between Jajce (in the Federation – FBiH entity ) on one side and municipalities of Shipovo and Mrkonjic Grad (both in Republika Srpska - RS entity) on the other.
The small municipality is located on the beautiful river Pliva, which from its source in Shipovo receives the tributary river of Janj, travelling through the municipality Jezero with its magnificent emerald colour, finally pouring into the Vrbas river in the form of the water from the Pliva Lake, descending further down the cascades into the famous waterfall.
Since 2007, a Mars crater with a diameter of 45 kilometres was named after this municipality, Jezero. Last night, its inhabitants proudly watched the transmission of the Perseverance rover landing at the Jezero crater.
For decades, this area was known for the opening of the trout fishing season in the beautiful and untouched nature of the basins of streams from Pliva and Janj, and from now on it will be known across the globe.
This is a unique opportunity for flyfishing fans to come in even greater numbers to tourist facilities at the sources of Pliva and Janja rivers, and of course to visit Jajce and the waterfall and the tourist centre on the Pliva Lake.
