Wildfire near Konjic remains active as firefighters defend homes

A wildfire remains active in the Herzegovina-Neretva Canton (HNC), in the Konjic area near the villages of Kanjina and Ovcari, where forest is burning on steep and inaccessible terrain. All available firefighters from the Konjic Professional Firefighting Unit, together with employees of the Prenj Forestry Company, are on the ground protecting homes in the villages of Kanjina and Zivasnica.

Aerial firefighting resources also took part in efforts to contain the blaze on Thursday. An Air Tractor aircraft operated over the Konjic fire in two sorties, from 4:30 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. and from 6:35 p.m. to 8:30 p.m., dropping water twice during each sortie. A helicopter of the Armed Forces of Bosnia and Herzegovina operated from 7:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., making six water drops. The Air Tractor also tackled a wildfire in the Gubavica (Pijesci) area near Mostar from 6:00 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.
In the Mostar area, firefighters responded to fires involving grass and low vegetation in Salakovac, Mazoljice and Pijesci, waste at Bisce Polje, and an electric scooter that caught fire in Dr. Ante Starcevic Street.
In the Capljina area, fires were reported in Počitelj, Sjekose, Trebizat, Celjevo, Tresana, Jasenica, Gnjilista, Struge and Gabela. Forest, grass, low vegetation, plant waste and a waste container burned, while firefighting operations at the Sjekose fire site are still ongoing. A fire alarm was also activated at an INA petrol station, but it was determined that there was no fire hazard.
In the Citluk area, forest as well as high and low vegetation burned, while in the Municipality of Prozor-Rama a grass and low vegetation fire was reported in the village of Ploča.
