Preparations for marking the 30th anniversary of the Srebrenica genocide are proceeding according to schedule, confirmed Hamdija Fejzic, Chair of the Organizing Committee for the commemoration.

“We have a meeting of the Organizing Committee scheduled for May 15, during which we will adopt the final program for the anniversary. Although there is still much work to do, we are committed to commemorating this anniversary in the most dignified way possible—exactly as the victims deserve,” said Fejzić in a statement to the FENA news agency.

This year, the 30th anniversary of the genocide will be marked by a range of activities around the world.

“The United Nations adopted a Resolution on the Srebrenica Genocide last year, and as the Organizing Committee, we now have the responsibility to coordinate commemorations both in Europe and globally. This year, Bosnian Presidency member Denis Becirovic has also joined the efforts. We’ve established a coordinating body to support the Organizing Committee and help us more effectively manage the tasks ahead,” Fejzic added.

Suljo Cakanovic, President of the “Peace March 2025” Subcommittee, told FENA that preparations for this event—dedicated to honoring the victims—are being carried out intensively and in line with plans. He noted that the next stage will focus on preparing the march route.

“We’re currently doing a preliminary inspection of the route, with the final walkthrough scheduled for late June. I commend all participants, especially the students who have consistently supported this event with dedication year after year. There’s no doubt they’ll rise to the occasion again this year,” said Cakanovic.

A recent meeting in the municipality of Sapna brought together members of the Peace March subcommittee and the logistics subcommittee, along with all key stakeholders involved in organizing the event. The meeting focused on route planning and organizing campsites for participants.

In May last year, the United Nations General Assembly adopted a resolution declaring July 11 as the International Day of Reflection and Remembrance of the 1995 Genocide in Srebrenica.
