RS Govt supports Draft on non-application of BiH's genocide denial ban

The Government of Bosnia’s Republika Srpska (RS) entity adopted the Opinion on the Draft Law on Amendments to the Criminal Code of the RS, by urgent procedure at the 27th special session held Thursday.

The Entity Government believes that the Draft Law on Amendments to the Criminal Code of the RS is harmonized with the Constitution, the legal system of the RS and the Rules for drafting laws and other regulations of the RS, and that it can be referred to further procedure.

These amendments stipulate that individuals disrespecting the entity, its flag or people could get up to 15 years of jail time.

Also, the RS Government today determined the Opinion on the Draft Law on Non-Application of the Decision of the High Representative Enacting the Law on Amendments to the Criminal Code of Bosnia and Herzegovina, by urgent procedure.

Outgoing High Representative in Bosnia and Herzegovina Valentin Inzko imposed the changes to the Bosnian Criminal Code, prohibit the denial of genocide and glorification of war criminals.

These amendments were published in BiH's Official Gazette and came into force Wednesday.

The RS Government concluded that the Draft Law on Non-Application of the said Decision of the High Representative is in line with the Constitution, the RS legal system and the Rules for Drafting Laws and Other Regulations of the RS, the Government said.
