Nowitzki, koji je čitavu karijeru, odnosno 21 sezonu, proveo u Dallas Mavericksima s kojima je 2011. osvojio NBA naslov te bio MVP finala. U aprilu 2019. godine odigrao je posljednji meč u NBA karijeri protiv San Antonia i oprostio se uz double-double 20 poena i 10 skokova. Za Mavse je odigrao 1.521 utakmicu uz prosjek od 20,7 poena po meču. 14 puta je nastupao na All-Star mečevima.
