Young people of Bosanski Petrovac, a small town in Bosnia's northwest, are marking this year their religious feasts together – Catholic and Orthodox Easter as well as Muslim Eid al-Fitr, only within a few days. Organisers, the Youth Council of Bosanski Petrovac, said their goal is to offer education about religious diversity, to mark three feasts together and to initiate dialogue.

“We are implementing this project with an aim to connect civil society and strengthen cohesion in our community,” said Adnan Druzic of the Youth Council.

He stressed as advantages of Bosanski Petrovac that the town has no so-called ‘two schools under one roof’ but that everyone can study their own group of ethnic subjects.

“Everyone has an option to study the language they want as well as history,” added Druzic.

According to him, the youth in Bosanski Petrovac are friends regardless of differences. They are marking all holidays together. However, Druzic noted with sadness, the number of locals including young people is decreasing year by year.

Two participants of the project, Dragoljub and Nejla, say that practice of marking each other's holidays together is interesting.

“We are definitely overcoming the differences. I never though of whether Dragoljub is an Orthodox, a Catholic or a Muslim. We have been friends since childhood and we have no obstacles in Bosanski Petrovac, which is an advantage of this small town,” said Nejla.
