A hydroelectric power plant is being built on the territory of Croatia, near the Una River spring.
The environmental protection and construction and urban planning inspectors of the Una-Sana Canton recently went to the field, in coordination with the Una National Park staff. The locals were indignant because they could be left without drinking water, so they organized protests several times.
The Federation (FBiH) entity government was also involved. The FBiH Environment and Tourism Minister Nasiha Pozder spoke for N1.
“An inspection was carried out on July 16, when we were informed about the situation on the ground. According to our findings, which we are investigating, Croatia failed to include Bosnia and Herzegovina in the processes in which it had the obligation to do so. We forwarded everything to the competent Ministry, which they forwarded to Croatia through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. We are now in the phase of obtaining real, concrete information as to whether an environmental impact study has been carried out. Now we’re waiting for that information,” she noted.
The director of the Una National Park, Alen Zulic, said “The consequences are catastrophic. If you dig up the riverbed, the ecosystem is disturbed. If an excavator enters that part and digs a trough, the consequences are inevitable, I would say catastrophic. The ‘Una’ Park is known all over the world”.
