A total of 235 films from 62 countries will be shown as part of the Sarajevo Film Festival, making it the largest cinema event in southeast Europe, the organisers said.
Ahead of the start of the 28th Sarajevo Film Festival, the organisers held a press conference which was also attended by representatives of sponsors of the event, including the Culture and Sports Ministry, the Tourist Board and the Center Municipality in Canton Sarajevo (KS).

“We are looking forward to meeting the audience again without (coronavirus) restrictions, in full capacity and with guests from all over the world,” said the director of the SFF, Jovan Marjanovic.
“Our audience, guests, rich conference program, Masterclasses with Paul Schrader, Sergei Loznits, Ruben Ostlund, Ari Folman, Jasmila Zbanic, Michel Winterbottom, presentation of the best TV series, previews and premieres of regional and domestic titles, screenings in Mostar and other cities, will make the Sarajevo Film Festival a unique celebration of film and television art,” he said.
The head of the Sarajevo Canton Tourist Board, Kenan Magoda, said that the SFF represents the peak of the tourist season in the capital and “one of the most significant cultural and social events in the entire region, which attracts a record number of visitors.”
“We are proud to be a long-term partner of the Sarajevo Film Festival and a partner of the Heart of Sarajevo award for the best feature film. Through joint work and commitment, we send an image of Sarajevo as a regional film and cultural centre and as a place of excellent entertainment and exceptional hospitality,” he said.
Magoda added that most of the accommodation capacities are fully booked for the period of the festival and that income from tourism is increasing even compared to the record year of 2019.
The Centar Municipality contributed 50,000 Bosnian marks for the organization of the event.
Municipal Mayor, Srdjan Mandic, said the SFF is “one of the biggest cultural projects in Bosnia and Herzegovina and beyond.”
“The Sarajevo Film Festival, as well as the Festival in the Center, are events of special importance for the Municipality of Centar because the largest number of festival activities are realized precisely in the area of this local community,” he said, adding that, during the duration of the Festival, Radiceva Street will be closed to vehicular traffic from 6 p.m. to 1 a.m.
On Friday, August 12, the 28th Sarajevo Film Festival opens with the film “Triangle of Sadness” by Ruben Ostlund, winner of the Palme d'Or at the Cannes festival and this year's winner of the Honorary Heart of Sarajevo.
The festival will end on August 19.
