Bosnia and Herzegovina’s Council of Ministers suggested five military barracks for the housing of 1,380 migrants and refugees, to the Bosnian Parliamentary Assembly for further discussion. The barracks are located in Sarajevo, Banjaluka, Bugojno, Semizovac and Kalinovik.

According to N1’s reporter Aleksandra Tolj, Kalinovik barracks has the largest capacity of some 500 potential migrants, however,  Kalinovik Municipality's local authorities are against the possibility of housing migrants in their Municipality.

Head of Kalinovik Municipality Mileva Komlenovic said that this local community has no conditions for the housing of migrants and refugees.

“We are surprised by this information. Kalinovik is not even prepared to house a way lesser number of migrants, let alone 500 of them. We don’t know if there would be 500 migrants,” Komlenovic said. “That is impossible to implement due to 2 reasons. The first is the state of the facility itself and the second is that it’s impossible to house 500 persons in such a small community. That would be the end of Kalinovik Municipality.”

The Council of Ministers’ suggestion also states that “Bosnia’s Armed Forces have the possibility to accommodate and temporarily house migrants and refugees in one or two smaller tent settlement whose capacity would be 500-700 persons. The area for the said settlements would be determined by the civilian authorities.”

They stressed that all their basic necessities would be provided in the said settlements.
