As Michael Jackson’s fans worldwide remember the superstar on the nine-year anniversary of his death on Monday, N1 reminds on his 1990's charity work through his Heal the World Foundation, which helped Bosnians during the bloody war in the country.
In cooperation with AmeriCares, the foundation provided 47 tonnes of medical supplies and winter clothes for the children of Sarajevo in 1992. Jackson himself turned up at Kennedy Airport in New York to watch the cargo being loaded.
“Sarajevo has become a symbol of so much that is tragic but avoidable in our world,” Jackson said. “Prejudice and ethnic hatred, the destruction of the environment, the shattering of families and of centuries-old communities.”
