Bulgarian Prime Minister Boyko Borissov met with Bosnia’s Council of Ministers’ Chairman Denis Zvizdic to whom he expressed Bulgaria’s support to Bosnia and its progress in the European integration process. Zvizdic thanked for Bulgaria’s support during its presidency over the EU.
“Together with (Austrian Chancellor Sebastian) Kurz, we agreed on the continued support for Bosnia and Herzegovina during Austria’s presidency of the Council of the European Union. Without repeating what was already said, I’d like to say it is important that we maintain the direction of connectivity and infrastructure as well as projects related to economic growth,” Borissov said addressing the media representatives.
When it comes to relations between Bulgaria and Bosnia and Herzegovina, Borissov stressed two things.
“I’d like to stress two things which are important to us: First, When it comes to Sofia – Skopje relations, We’ve signed an agreement on the good neighbourly relations, and when it comes to the Skopje – Athens relations, we all witnessed a progress in their relations. I wish I could tell you what Bosnia could do to follow these examples and find solutions for its situation,” Borissov said. “These weren’t simple solutions, neither for Greece, Macedonia, nor for Bulgaria. The agreement resolved an active situation between the three countries.”
Zvizdic thanked Borissov for everything Bulgaria did for Bosnia in the past 25 years, especially in the past six months, confirming once again that the European perspective is the key political goal of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
“Right after the election in Bosnia, we intend to officially submit our candidacy request for EU membership. We also hope the NATO Membership Action Plan for Bosnia will be activated. Our other priority is the economic development and infrastructure,” Zvizdic said. “We continuously work on connecting the Western Balkans countries.”
He added that Bulgaria went through the process that awaits Bosnia and therefore this country understands what Bosnia is going through and that Borissov knows that the European perspective means peace, stability and prosperity for Bosnia.
