At the beginning of the meeting of NATO Heads of State and Governments in Brussels, NATO’s Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg stressed that Bosnia and Herzegovina will not be a subject of discussion of this Summit. What will be discussed is increased defence spending, and modern-day defence and security threats.
The Western Balkans, however, will be partially discussed because Macedonia will be invited to begin accession talks with this organisation.
As always, Stoltenberg stressed NATO’s good relations with Bosnia but warned Bosnia about the NATO Membership Action Plan (MAP).
“NATO continues to work with Bosnia and Herzegovina, we continue to support Bosnia as a partner nation but I don’t expect allies to make a decision now, on when to activate the MAP,” Stoltenberg told the press ahead of the Summit.
Stoltenberg and other leaders will also discuss ways to bridge the gaps between them and how to strengthen the NATO structure. NATO member states have promised to invest additional USD 266 billion in the 2018-2024 period in order to reach the 2 percent GDP spending per member state.
