The future of Bosnia and Herzegovina is in the European Union (EU), the country has to turn to it and Serbia can be a true partner in that, Croat member of Bosnia's tripartite Presidency Dragan Covic said in Belgrade on Thursday following the meeting with President of Serbia Aleksandar Vucic.

According to the Presidency of Bosnia and Herzegovina, the officials discussed the improvement of relations between the two countries and the situation in the region.

Covic informed his Serbia's counterpart about the importance to maintain the stability in the region, with special emphasis on the period after the Bosnia's election taking place in October.

“We spoke about the future too. It is my stance that Bosnia and Herzegovina has a future in the European Union and that we must turn to it and strengthen our economic relations, because without new jobs, internal and legal safety in Bosnia, we can hardly pursue any future,” said Covic, adding he is “deeply convinced” it is possible to make one enormous step ahead with Serbia as a partner in a wide range of projects.

Asked if the situation in Bosnia could destabilize before the October election, Covic said there was no such possibility but that a small incident during the election campaign may affect it.

“I am deeply convinced that with all the present problems the institutions of Bosnia and Herzegovina will know how to respond to all challenges,” he added.

The two presidents also touched upon the Bosnia Presidency's initiative for holding a roundtable of heads of states in the region, which would discuss the sustainable development goals and serve as additional incentive to the regional cooperation.

According to the Presidency, the officials discussed the joint infrastructural projects as well as positive results of this year's International Economy Fair Mostar, where Serbia was a partner country.
