Nearly a hundred illegal migrants were relocated from the north-western Bosnian town of Bihac to a migrant centre outside Sarajevo on Saturday, the Service for Foreigners’ Affairs of Bosnia and Herzegovina said.

Some 93 migrants were staying in the open in the city parks and their relocation was the result of efforts to help the authorities of the Una-Sana Canton in dealing with the problem of accommodation for the migrants.

All the migrants evacuated from Bihac will be accommodated at the migrant centre in Delijas, near Trnovo, about 30 kilometres from Sarajevo. They will stay there until their asylum claims have been processed and during that time they will have access to health care and other necessities.

According to the Service for Foreigners’ Affairs, since the start of the year, 8,930 illegal migrants have arrived in Bosnia and Herzegovina on their way to the western Europe. A vast majority of them have expressed their intention to formally request asylum, but few have done so. They need a document confirming that they have applied for asylum to be able to travel around and to try to continue their journey to the European Union.
