Republika Srpska (RS) entity President Milorad Dodik said he has a much better cooperation with Dragan Covic, Bosnia’s tripartite Presidency member from the Croat people than he does with the Presidency Chairman Bakir Izetbegovic, from the Bosniak people. He adds that a third entity could be a long-term solution for Bosnia.
Bosnia and Herzegovina consists of two entities and a district: The Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina (FBiH), dominated by Bosniaks and Croats, the Republika Srpska (RS), dominated by Serbs, and the District of Brcko, shared by all three constituent peoples.
“I think a third entity is some kind of solution if they want a long-term, sustainable solution, however, Bosniaks are against this. They want to destroy the Croats’ identity and even the idea of them forming an entity which would be called Herzeg-Bosnia, so they (Bosniaks) could then begin the final showdown with Serbs and our RS and our identity,” Dodik said. “I understand this but some people don’t. Bosniaks’ basic political premise is ‘there’s more of us, we’re having more babies and the future is ours, we only need to push through.’ That’s why there’s no agreement on anything.”
He added that he has an excellent relationship and deep understanding with Dragan Covic.
“I think the process of making Croats and Serbs unequal to others must be stopped as soon as possible. It must be stopped especially in the FBiH. I’ll tell you this, no Serb Caucus in the FBiH House of Peoples was ever complete since 1995. That’s how much they (Bosniaks) respect Serbs,” Dodik concluded.
Ever since the war of 1992-1995 ended, Bosnian Croat politicians have always pushed for a third entity on the territory of Southern-Bosnia which would be dominated by Croats, arguing that only through this third entity will their rights be fully respected.
