Herzegovina stone exported to Chinese market

Stone from the Berkovici area, in Herzegovina, has been exported to the distant Chinese market for quite some time, but soon, exports could increase thanks to the increased Chinese interest, said Bosnia’s Foreign Trade Minister, Mirko Sarovic after visiting the “Kremnice” company that processes natural stone.

“I think we will intensify our cooperation with China, so our trade volume will be much higher than it is right now. The current trade volume is over BAM one billion (around EUR 500 million). We’re importing a lot more from China than we’re exporting,” Sarovic said

The “Kremnice” company is a Chinese investment and it is the only such company in this part of the semi-autonomous Republika Srpska (RS) entity. Its value is over BAM 4 million (around EUR 2 million) and the company’s entire production is shipped to China.

“We plan to build a stone processing plant and there is great potential in that investment. We’ve already initiated some preparations for the construction of the production hall, some of the equipment is already being purchased,” Director of the “Kremnice” company, Marinko Puljic said.

The company currently employs 58 employees mostly from the local villages. Four new investors contacted them and new investments will be provided through the “China+16” and “One Road, One Belt” investment lines.
