Shots fired in Banja Luka, police claim mosque not a target

Anadolija

The police apprehended two persons after the shooting that took place near Ferhadija mosque, in the northwestern Bosnia's city of Banja Luka.

Banja Luka Police Administration confirmed to N1 that one shot was fired on Thursday, shortly after the midnight but that the mosque was not the target.

Unofficially, the police patrol heard the shot and arrived at the site, where they found two intoxicated persons and apprehended them. They underwent a criminal investigation and are awaiting further proceedings.

Banja Luka Mufti Office harshly condemned the accident, assessing it as “an act of terrorism”, as it took place on the third day of the Muslim celebration of Eid Al-Adha.

“We sincerely hope this act is not related to the attempts to heat up the situation before the official start of the election campaign,” said the Mufti Office.
