SDA condemns burning of SBB member's car

The Party of Democratic Action (SDA) on Wednesday condemned an incident from the day before, when the car of a top official of the Union for a Better Future (SBB) was set ablaze, but also said that it was “impermissible” for the incident to be used for political purposes.

The car of Union for a Better Future (SBB) senior member Adisa Omerbegovic-Arapovic was set ablaze in the night between Monday and Tuesday.

Following the event, Omerbegovic-Arapovic and her husband, also a top SBB member, held a press conference at the scene the incident took place.

“I have personally felt the actions of the state mafia. My husband and I are intellectuals who are fighting against it with our ideas and different opinions. We were targeted by those who want to remain in power for the rest of their lives,” Omerbegovic-Arapovic said.

The SDA and the SBB are both within the ruling coalition in the Federation (FBiH), one of Bosnia’s two semi-autonomous entities. The two parties are, however, fiercely competing in the upcoming general election.

“It is impermissible for such incidents to be politicised, which was obvious from yesterday’s speech of the victim and her husband, who have, even before an investigation was completed, found the perpetrators among those in power, while intentionally forgetting that they are themselves part of the Government,” the SDA said.

“We call upon the Minister of Interior of Canton Sarajevo, Vedran Mulabdic, to, instead of behaving like a background actor on SBB press conferences, finally begin his doing his job and establish a priority in the work of the police to solve all cases of burned cars in Sarajevo, which is happening more and more often,” the party said.
