We came to the house to sleep, saw the guns and we took them. We had no criminal intent. What’s more, we didn’t even know what to do with them, Amini Moradi, one of the migrants arrested on Sunday on suspicion of possession of firearms, told the court in Sarajevo.

“The prosecutor said we bought the weapons. We showed him where the weapons cache is located, had we had enough money, we wouldn’t have shown him the house. There are people who are criminals, and there are stupid people,” Moradi said in Sarajevo’s Municipal Court. “We came to the house to sleep, we saw the guns and we took them. We had no criminal intent. We didn’t even know what to do with them.”

The Sarajevo Municipal Court said it would deliver its verdict on the 30-day detention within 24 hours. Until then, the migrants will remain in police custody.

“I told the police where the guns are. They didn’t force me to say that, they didn’t torture me to say that. We had nothing but the bag with our clothes in it,” Moradi added during the hearing.

Twenty-three-year-old Jebbdul Kader also addressed the court.

“We admit we did something wrong. We had no place to sleep and so we found that house, we slept there and when we woke up we found the guns. There are no other guns which we could hide,” Kader said. “We didn’t sell the guns, nor did we plan to do so, or to use them in any way. We’re not criminals, we only have our dreams which are to live better.”

The Sarajevo Canton’s Prosecution requested a 30-day custody from the Sarajevo Municipal Court on suspicion that the suspects could flee and that they could commit other crimes while at large, Prosecution’s spokesperson Azra Bavcic told N1.
