Bosnia’s Council of Ministers Chairman Denis Zvizdic spoke to Judge Theodor Meron who led the delegation of the International Residual Mechanism for Criminal Tribunals (IRMCT) in their visit to Bosnia. The two talked about the IRMCT’s work and help to Bosnian courts in the processing of war crimes.

Speaking of Bosnia’s priorities, Zvizdic said that processing of the most complex war crimes cases by competent courts and the implementation of the Strategy for Resolution of War Crimes Cases will be in its focus.

The International Residual Mechanism for Criminal Tribunals (IRMCT), is an international court established by the United Nations Security Council in 2010 to perform the remaining functions of the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia (ICTY) and the International Criminal Tribunal for Rwanda (ICTR) after the said tribunals’ mandates have ended.

Judge Meron who is also the President of the IRMCT, told Zvizdic of the near end of his mandate and said that Judge Carmel Agius would succeed him in that function. He also said the IRMCT plans to form an activity group whose aim is to increase access to information about the IRMCT and ICTY in the region.

The two also talked about IRMCT’s help to Bosnian judiciary in the processing of war crimes,  continued cooperation between Bosnia and the IRMCT and the creation of MICT’s information centre on former Yugoslav states.
