Vjetrenica, the largest and most popular cave in Bosnia and Herzegovina, is one of the country's most well known natural attractions and is visited throughout the year by people from all over the world.
The literal translation of its name is ‘wind cave’, due to its airflow that produces strong winds at particular spots.
The cave, located in the south-eastern part of the Herzegovina, is on the UNESCO’s World Heritage Tentative list since 2004.
With over six kilometres of passages and numerous halls including its main attraction, the golden hall, the Vjetrenica cave is an inexhaustible source of wonders for both speleologists and tourists.
It contains numerous lakes, waterfalls and dozens of creeks flowing in various directions as well as speleological features and endemic types of shellfish hidden in its aquifer system.
