Bosnia's Presidency members are carrying positive news to Brussels, Presidency member Sefik Dzaferovic said on Monday, a day before the official visit to the seat of the European Union (EU) institutions.

The country has finalised the answers to the European Commission's (EC) Questionnaire, Dzaferovic said, adding that this means “we want to build our country's European road as quick as possible.”

Three Bosnia Presidency members will on Tuesday start the first official visit since taking office in November last year. They decided it would be Brussels, where they are set to meet in separate meetings with senior EU officials, the Presidency said on Monday.

According to Dzaferovic, it is exceptionally important that the first official visit is taking place exactly in Brussels, where the EU and NATO are seated.

Bosnia has to become a member state of the EU and NATO as soon as possible, and this would make the political stage in the country more stable, Dzaferovic said.

He hopes Bosnia will get the status of EU candidate this year, but it depends on the European Commission's opinion which this institution will give after the country delivers the answers to the EC Questionnaire.

Presidency member Zeljko Komsic also hopes for the candidate status to be granted soon.

“We're carrying a message that it would be good, wise and clever not only for Bosnia and Herzegovina but also for the EU member states that Bosnia and Herzegovina is granted the candidate status, said Komsic pointing out it would be better if the decision on Bosnia's status is passed prior to the election in the EU.

Bosnia's Presidency is set to meet the EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Police, European Commissioner for Neighbourhood Policy and Enlargement Negotiations, and the European Council President.
