Over 28,000 residents of Bosnia’s Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina (FBiH) entity have left the country in the past decade, and most of them moved to neighbouring countries and Germany, said the FBiH Statistics Agency.
Most FBiH residents moved to Croatia (12,671), Germany (5,099), Austria (3,720), Serbia (3,272), Slovenia (2,259), Montenegro (735), Norway (106), the Netherlands (79), the US (377) and 377 to other countries.
The most common reasons for their departure were economic reasons, the political situation in the country and a sense of hopelessness and inability to find a job.
The FBiH Statistics Agency said they recorded the biggest outflows in 2010, 2014, 2016, 2017 and 2018, and the largest age-group that left the country were the 29-year-olds, while those between 30 and 50 and those over the age of 55 were equally represented in the Agency’s data.
