Around two percent of Bosnia’s territory is still covered with landmines and with the new strategy in place, the country could be mine-free by 2025, said General Major Ivica Jerkic, presenting the annual analysis of mine-clearance operations of Bosnia’s Armed Forces for 2018.

The event was also attended by the Head of the EU Delegation to Bosnia, Lard-Gunnar Wigemark who said that Bosnia is the most mine-polluted country in Europe, but that everyone is doing everything in their power to make Bosnia mine-free by 2025.

“Bosnia adopted a new Mine-clearance Strategy for 2018-2025, and it is my pleasure to announce that the EU will support the implementation of these activities with € 10 million,” Wigemark added.

The mine-clearance analysis was attended by Defence Ministry representatives, as well as members of Bosnia’s Armed Forces, and representatives of civilian authorities, military-diplomatic personnel in the country and mine-clearance companies.
