After a year of political stalemate, the formation of Bosnia's government opens the way for a renewed commitment of the political parties to allow for progress on the EU path of the country, said EU's High Representative for Foreign Affairs Josep Borrell and Neighbourhood and Enlargement Commissioner Olivér Várhelyi in a joint statement.
“Relations between the European Union and Bosnia and Herzegovina are at a defining moment following the endorsement of the Commission Opinion and its 14 key priorities in the areas of the rule of law, fundamental rights and public administration reform but also democracy by the EU Council. The coming 2020 will be an important year for Bosnia and Herzegovina with the holding of local elections, including in Mostar,” Borrell and Várhelyi said.
The two stressed the urgency of the engagement of the State level government needed to define, adopt and implement a new package of socio and economic reforms for the benefit of the country and its citizens.
According to them, the work ahead requires the full commitment of legislative and executive authorities at all levels and the EU is ready to fully support and accompany Bosnia, its institutions and all its citizens in moving forward on the European integration path.
