Thanks to a Facebook group gathering 80 Bosnian citizens living in China, the Embassy learned they are all safe and are closely following the Chinese authorities' recommendations regarding the coronavirus, Bosnian Ambassador to China Tarik Bukvic said on Tuesday, adding that two Bosnians who were located in the epicentre of the epidemic in Wuhan, had left the region prior to the outbreak.

According to Bukic, Bosnians living in China are mostly youths who found employment there or who are studying.

Thanks to this group, the Embassy learned that two Bosnian citizens lived in Wuhan, where the epidemic began, he noted.

“We called then and learned that they left China prior to the outbreak. Considering that it's the holiday season in China, one of them left China to spend their vacation in Bosnia, while the other person left for a neighbouring country,” the Ambassador said.

Bukic pointed out that is dealing with this issue very thoroughly and in a transparent manner, adding that the World Health Organisation is also included in the treatment of this problem. He praised China for the way in which they are dealing with this epidemic.

“Th embassies’ role is to try to evacuate their citizens from the quarantined and those areas from which people are unable to leave freely. Luckily, none of our citizens is in such area at the moment and that they all have full freedom of movement and are able to leave the country whenever they want,” he said.

The added that the most frustrating thing for the Bosnian citizens living in China is the sensationalist reporting by some regional news portals who are falsely reporting on the situation in this country.
