Parents of Bosniak children attending the Srebrenica school where Serb students were allegedly photographed glorifying the chetnik movement, announced a protest for Wednesday as a warning to local authorities against the spreading of hatred.
“This was a gathering of disgruntled parents of children attending the Srebrenica elementary school on the latest developments in this school. We met to agree on how to respond to the spread of hatred, fascism and nationalism in the school facilities. All the parents will hold a protest in front of the school tomorrow against the violation of children's rights and the discrimination occurring at school,” said the parent representative Mirnes Zahirovic.
Zahirovic added the parents felt that “Srebrenica is a very sensitive place and we think that there is no need for this.”
“We feel sorry for these kids. We will try to talk to the parents of those children through the parents’ council, to see if this is what they want in our school. We believe that this is not the attitude of the majority, but that the children are manipulated with,” he concluded, adding that parents would present certain demands at the protest.
