Federation entity confirms 45 new Covid-19 cases, WHO praises improved testing

Of the 451 samples tested in the past 24 hours, 45 were positive for Covid-19, Health Minister of Bosnia's Bosniak Croat Federation (FBiH) entity Vjekoslav Mandic told Anadolu Agency, adding that this entity has had 21 deaths so far.

“So far we tested 3,771 patients of which 416 tested positive. In total, 64 patients have been hospitalised in the FBiH, of which 6 are in serious condition and are connected to respirators,” Mandic said.

He noted that, for now, they are managing this crisis in a way that they want to thin out the pandemic. We want to see as few patients as possible so that the healthcare system can respond to such numbers. The only way out is through tips we keep telling you every day. Maintaining social distance and protection because we are struggling not to have a large number of patients,” Mandic noted.

Victor Olsavszky, the head of the WHO Office in Bosnia, said that the Organisation is seeing a good trend in terms of an increase in the testing capacity in Bosnia and especially in the FBiH.

“This will certainly help decision-makers to better manage this crisis and flatten the curve so that they do not have a sharp increase in patients. The primary objective is to avoid the rapid growth of the sick, which would lead to a large number of hospitalized patients taking up all the facilities, so this is crucial,” he concluded.
