Bosnia was at the forefront at the start of the Covid-19 pandemic, in keeping infections at the low rate which is not the case now, UN Resident Coordinator in the country Ingrid Macdonald said Monday, handing over the World Health Organisation's (WHO) donation of 1,000 visors and 20,000 masks.
“At the early stages of this emergency, Bosnia was at the forefront of really being able to keep infections to a very low rate and the work of the minister was absolutely essential to this, but at this stage we really need to focus a little bit further in putting some more efforts to testing, tracing and surveillance,” Macdonald said.
Bosnian Civil Affairs Minister Ankica Gudeljevic received the donation of country's behalf.
She thanked the WHO, saying the donation will serve those who need it the most.
The UN Resident Coordinator recalled that the situation regarding the Covid-19 pandemic has worsened in the country and as a result, the health care system is now suffering.
