Serb member of Bosnian three-member Presidency Milorad Dodik is a “political caricature” but so are his “twins” on the Bosniak and Croat sides, academician Rusmir Mahmutcehajic told N1, stressing that Bosnian society is witnessing abuse of political power and the absence of rule of law.

Speaking in N1's Pressing, Mahmutcehajic said that local political parties are mostly not democratic so he asked whether such parties are capable of building up a democratic society.

He said that the Constitution of Bosnia and Herzegovina is not an obstacle.

“The Constitution of BiH, the one we have now, enables with no changes the building up of a stable, democratic state and society of Bosnia and Herzegovina,” said Mahmutcehajic.

Commenting on the another failed round of political talks on electoral reform, he said that what actually happened is that some individuals and allies “did not manage to impose on the BiH society and its state such solutions that exist nowhere in Europe and are completely opposite to the Constitution”.

Mahmutcehajic compared Bosnia and Herzegovina with a “patient on a surgical table surrounded by surgeons,” adding that they must clearly see the situation the way it is and determine the priorities.

“This cannot be achieved without public discourse or critical thinking,” he underlined.

As for the country's future, the academician said there should be no external mediation.

“A strong civil society must be established within the BiH society and the nation, which would then establish the rule of law and sustainable democracy. We have friends in developed democracies for that,” said Mahmutcehajic.

“Minority is able of changing the situation. So, there is a minority in BiH as well, but it has been fenced,” he stressed and concluded.

“The country's biggest problem is the lack of knowledge and vision.”
