Jovica Radulovic, acting president of the main opposition party in Republika Srpska, the Serb Democratic Party (SDS), claims he is the target of politically motivated investigations and could be next to face arrest. Radulovic also serves as mayor of Modrica.

“In the past few days, I have been informed, both officially and unofficially, that investigations have been opened against me and that the prosecutor’s office, through the Ministry of Interior, is collecting information and exerting pressure on certain individuals and networks,” Radulovic told Srpskainfo.

He asserts that the investigation is part of a broader campaign by the ruling authorities to target the SDS, following a pattern previously used against the former SDS president and mayor of Teslic, Milan Milicevic, and the mayor of Bijeljina, Ljubisa Petrovic.

“Some of the complaints against me, as far as I know, come directly from the SNSD [the ruling party]. The complaint was probably filed by my opponent in the last local elections, Borislav Rakic, a candidate from SNSD, frustrated by his defeat,” Radulovic said.

Radulovic noted that the allegations relate to events from last year, prior to local elections. “The investigation supposedly concerns the ‘purchase of a municipal assembly majority’ in Modrica after the local elections. I have information that the complaint has been reactivated, as well as Rakic’s complaint, against whom I will also file criminal charges for false reporting. They allege that I allegedly paved a private courtyard in September 2024, during the election campaign, in exchange for votes. This, of course, is completely untrue,” he said.

According to Radulovic, the timing of these investigations—shortly after he became acting SDS president—is intended to tarnish the party’s leadership and reduce its public support, following the same strategy previously applied to Milicevic and Petrović.

He firmly rejects all allegations and says he is confident he can easily prove his innocence if given the opportunity.

“It is obvious that this is political pressure, and I do not rule out the possibility of being summoned or detained. I expect investigators to knock on my door at any moment. However, I am fully prepared and not avoiding anything. Interestingly, investigative actions are carried out only in opposition-led municipalities in Republika Srpska. Amid major scandals such as the Viaduct affair, the purchase of the UIO building, problems in ‘Sume RS,’ Elektroprivreda, and numerous other scandals that have brought Republika Srpska to the edge, mayors and opposition leaders are being investigated. This speaks volumes about the undemocratic society we live in and the regime we are dealing with,” Radulovic concluded.
