German film All Quiet on the Western Front was among the most successful ones at the 95th Academy Awards the past weekend, winning Oscars in four different categories, becoming one of the most awarded foreign language film in the history of the Oscars. Edin Hasanovic, German actor of Bosnian origin, told N1 following this big achievement that he is happy for the entire team that worked on the project.
“What an honour. The biggest award in our industry. Something every actor dreams of. And now I managed to act in a film that won four Oscars,” said Hasanovic, adding that it is a wonderful feeling to know that your work is seen and appreciated.
“I'm most happy for the entire team that realized this project with endless love and perseverance,” he stressed.
But, Hasanovic, who is among the main stars of the film, pointed out the moment in which the award has arrived.
“At the same time, I wonder how important the award is now as the world faces the current political world situation. I think of all the people who gave their lives for freedom in Iran, I think of the women in Afghanistan, who were deprived of all their rights, and of course I think of the bloody war in Ukraine. So at the end of the day, even that award loses its value and luster,” he said in a brief statement.
Hasanovic was born in the eastern Bosnian town of Zvornik at the beginning of the 1992-95 war and fled the country with his mother.
He is a recognised member of the film industry in Germany, having won the prestigious Goldene Kamera award in that country for his work.
