Alen Pilav appointed as new director of Sarajevo University Clinical Center

According to multiple sources, the Federation entity Minister of Health Nediljko Rimac has given his official approval for the appointment of Dr Alen Pilav. The decision follows a proposal submitted by the newly formed KCUS Management Board.

Dr. Pilav had previously served as acting director of KCUS, taking over temporarily after the dismissal of former director Sebija Izetbegovic on November 27, 2023. Following Pilav’s interim term, the position was held by Hajrija Maksic, who was to remain in the role until a permanent appointment was made.

For months, Minister Rimac had withheld approval for the previous top-ranked candidate, Dr. Ismet Gavrankapetanovic, arguing that he did not meet the necessary requirements for the position. The prolonged stalemate had left Bosnia and Herzegovina's largest healthcare institution without a permanent general director for nearly eight months.

Dr. Pilav's appointment is expected to bring much-needed stability and continuity to KCUS, one of the country's most critical healthcare institutions.
