All Serb parties in the National Assembly of Bosnia and Herzegovina’s Republika Srpska (RS) entity voted for the adoption of a report by the “Independent International Commission of Inquiry on the Sufferings of All Peoples in the Srebrenica Region between 1992 and 1995”, headed by Israeli historian Gideon Greif, who was widely condemned for denying the fact that genocide took place in Srebrenica in 1995.

“The term genocide for Srebrenica is incorrect. That qualification cannot be accepted and the RS National Assembly permanently rejects it”, is one of the conclusions of the Thursday session that were supported by both the ruling party and the opposition.

The parties also agreed that they condemn and consider the actions of BiH ambassador to the UN, Zlatko Lagumdzija, unacceptable, inadmissible and are thus seeking his dismissal. Lagumdzija initiated activities related to a Resolution on Srebrenica that is expected to be voted on in the UN General Assembly beginning of May.

The RS Assembly also urges “ambassadors appointed from the territory of the RS to respect the decisions of the institutions of the RS”.

“The National Assembly expresses reverence for all the victims and their families from the tragic conflict in Bosnia and Herzegovina and condemns the war crimes committed on all sides,” it said.

Also, the earlier report of the Commission for the investigation of events in and around Srebrenica from July 10 to 19, 1995, which were made in June and October 2004, is rejected by the Assembly, as it considers the report “inaccurate, unprofessional, tendentious and speculative”.

“It was imposed by political pressure from the High Representative Paddy Ashdown and therefore made in an unobjective and malicious manner against the Serbs and Republika Srpska,” the conclusion states.

The joint conclusions were signed by representatives of all Serb parties: SNSD, SDS, PDP, US, NPS, Demos, SP, SPS, List for Justice and Order, DNS and NF.

According to a 2021 decision of the former High Representative of the international community in BiH, Valentin Inzko, denying the genocide in Srebrenica is a criminal offence in the country.
