UK Ambassador to Bosnia and Herzegovina Julian Reilly expressed support to High Representative Christian Schmidt, who imposed changes to the Election Law of BiH and the Constitution of the Bosniak-Croat shared Federation entity, calling on political actors to work together to implement the election results and to support the reforms needed for BiH’s progress on its Euro-Atlantic path.
“The United Kingdom supports the role played by the High Representative and his Office in Bosnia and Herzegovina. It is a source of regret that the powers of the High Representative continue to be needed in Bosnia and Herzegovina, but in the absence of domestic political will or leadership, the High Representative has an important part to play in implementing the Dayton Accords and supporting the framework for a prosperous future,” the ambassador said, adding that Schmidt's decisions today should be seen in that light.
Functional governments, at all levels, are crucial to ensure progress and stability, Reilly said, urging the domestic political actors to work together to implement the election results and to support the reforms needed for BiH’s progress on its Euro-Atlantic path.
US Embassy earlier also expressed support to High Representative Schmidt.
