Director General for Europe at the EEAS, Angelina Eichhorst, will visit Bosnia and Herzegovina from February 6 to 7, 2024.
On behalf of Deputy Secretary General for Political Affairs Enrique Mora, Eichhorst will co-chair the tenth meeting of the six political directors of the Western Balkan countries and the EU, which will be hosted by the BiH Foreign Ministry on 6-7 February, in Sarajevo. This forum brings together senior officials from the ministries of foreign affairs of the Western Balkan countries and the European External Action Service (EEAS) to discuss current foreign policy issues and ways to solve them together.
Eichhorst will also meet with the Presidency of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Minister of Foreign Affairs Elmedin Konakovic and EUFOR Commander Major General László Sticza.
Following the decision of the European Council in December 2023 to start accession negotiations with BiH when the necessary degree of compliance with membership requirements is achieved, Eichhorst will use the meetings to ask representatives of the executive and legislative authorities in the country for progress in reforms, considering that the Commission submits its progress report to the European Council no later than March 2024.
