Saturday marks the 29th anniversary of the massacre in the village of Brisevo, a crime committed against Bosnian Croats in the parish of Stara Rijeka, four kilometres south of Prijedor.
On July 24 and 25, 1992, members of the Republika Srpska Army attacked Brisevo. After the destruction and entry into the settlement, hell followed for its inhabitants, as they experienced the same fate as the inhabitants of six settlements with a Bosniak majority, which are also located on the left bank of the Sana River.
In a village of just under 400, 67 Croats were killed.
The youngest victim was 14-year-old Ervin Matanovic, and the oldest was 81-year-old Stipo Dimac.
Accused of this crime way Mico Prastalo, as one of the commanders of the Serb units that carried out the massacre. After the indictment was filed, he was found dead in November 2018, and according to the police, it was suicide with a firearm.
