As part of the Sarajevo Film Festival (SFF), the "Arman Soldin" scholarship was presented on Thursday at the European House of Culture and National Minorities. The scholarship winner is Nejla Mulic for the film Women of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
The basic scholarship is made in memory of the Bosnian/French journalist Arman Soldin, who died in May 2023 while reporting from the Ukrainian battlefield.
Before the awarding of the scholarship, the audience was shown a video showing part of the material that Arman Soldin shot during reporting from the Ukrainian battlefield.
SFF director Jovan Marjanovic emotionally addressed the audience, saying that the scholarship aims to preserve the memory of Arman Soldin:
“It’s with deep sadness and great pleasure that we were able to gather today, on this occasion. Arman's life, as someone who worked with us, is something we want to celebrate and about whom we want to send a message to future students of the Academy of Performing Arts, that this kind of engagement is important. These are important things. We hope that this award will be an incentive for those of you who are studying and engaged in TV production. This will remind us of what Arman did,” Marjanovic added.
Arman Soldin was a former master's student of the Department of Production and Management at the Academy of Performing Arts in Sarajevo. The goal of the scholarship is to encourage students dealing with the topics of social justice and social engagement, in accordance with the values represented by Soldin.
The scholarship is awarded in the organization of the Obala Art Center, the Embassy of France in Bosnia and Herzegovina, the French Institute, and the Sarajevo Academy of Performing Arts.
