Austria reaffirms support for Bosnia and Herzegovina’s sovereignty and EU path

Member of the Presidency of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Denis Becirovic, met with the Federal Minister for Europe, Integration and Family of the Republic of Austria, Claudia Plakolm, where the two officials exchanged views on current priorities and opportunities to further deepen relations between Bosnia and Herzegovina and Austria.

Becirovic expressed gratitude for Austria’s long-standing assistance and support to Bosnia and Herzegovina, both bilaterally and multilaterally. He underlined that Bosnia and Herzegovina and Austria enjoy exceptionally close and friendly relations, with no open issues between them, and stressed that cooperation is rooted in mutual respect, trust, and continuous dialogue.

The Presidency member particularly thanked Austria for its consistent and principled support in safeguarding the constitutional order of Bosnia and Herzegovina. He emphasized that Austria clearly condemns anti-Dayton activities and any actions directed against the independence, sovereignty, and territorial integrity of the country.

Focus on integration and economy

Becirovic highlighted the importance of accelerating Bosnia and Herzegovina’s Euro-Atlantic and European integration processes. He also noted Austria’s significant role as one of Bosnia and Herzegovina’s largest trading partners and key foreign investors.

“Bosnia and Herzegovina and the Republic of Austria have very developed trade relations, and numerous Austrian investors contribute to creating new jobs and strengthening economic growth in BiH,” Becirovic stated.

Austria’s Continued Support

Minister Plakolm reaffirmed Austria’s strong support for Bosnia and Herzegovina’s European path, describing her country as a reliable partner firmly committed to the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Bosnia and Herzegovina. She expressed readiness to enhance cooperation further, particularly in the areas of youth, education, and cultural exchange.

Plakolm also underscored Austria’s commitment to actively supporting reform processes in Bosnia and Herzegovina, as well as contributing to development programs and bilateral projects.

Bosnian-Herzegovinian Community in Austria

Both sides emphasized the importance of the Bosnian-Herzegovinian community in Austria, describing it as a vital link between the two countries. The community, well integrated into Austrian society, plays a significant role in strengthening economic, educational, and cultural ties between Sarajevo and Vienna.

The meeting, the Presidency member’s office noted, reaffirmed Austria’s role as one of Bosnia and Herzegovina’s most consistent partners in Europe.
