The Minister of Justice of Austria, Alma Zadic, said on Friday that the future of Bosnia and Herzegovina is in the European Union and that Austria will continue to support the country on its European path.

After the meeting in Sarajevo with Bosnia’s Justice Minister Davor Bunoz, she congratulated BiH on the reforms implemented so far and called for the continuation of the country’s path.

Zadic stated that Austria advocated that EU expansion to the Western Balkans and BiH be the focus of discussions within the Union and that their goal is European integration leading to greater stability, prosperity and peace for BiH, the region and Europe.

She recalled that in order to start membership negotiations, Bosnia needs to adopt key laws on the Court, the High Judicial and Prosecutorial Council (HJPC), the protection of personal data and the protection of borders.

“The rule of law with transparent and fair legal procedures is the foundation of a democratic society and is therefore of key importance for EU membership, and it must be a priority,” said Zadic.

Bunoza pointed out that Austria belongs to Bosnia’s closest circle of friends on its European path and expressed his satisfaction with the meeting where the country's support was reiterated.
