German Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock walked down the streets of Sarajevo Old Town on Thursday in company of the mayors of Sarajevo, Banja Luka and Mostar. She previously met the three mayors at the Sarajevo City Hall.
They stopped by main attractions including the Old Bazaar – Bascarsija, the Old Orthodox church, Gazi Husrev-bey's mosque, the Old Jewish Temple and the Sacred Heart Cathedral.
Baerbock told Sarajevo Mayor Benjamina Karic during the talks that Germany is Bosnia's friend and has always been among the countries advocating Bosnia's EU path.
They also discussed the options of establishing connections between Sarajevo and Germany's capital Berlin, which would strengthen the ties between the two countries.
Karic said she was very encouraged with the talks today.
“We discussed turbulent political situation in our country which requires extremely responsible and transparent authorities, a new generation of politicians who must actively bring changes in Bosnia and Herzegovina,” she added.
Drasko Stanivukovic, the mayor of the northern city of Banja Luka, the second largest in Bosnia and Herzegovina, assessed as significant the visit to the Old Orthodox Church in company of the German FM.
“It was an opportunity to familiarise the minister with the cultural heritage of our people,” he added.
Baerbock arrived in Sarajevo Wednesday evening and a day later she held a series of meetings with Bosnia's senior officials.
