Protests took place in Banja Luka today in support of Mayor Drasko Stanivukovic's policies. Among the attendees were Branislav Borenovic, Milanko Mihajilica, and Jelena Trivic, who joined a large number of citizens rallying against a proposed reallocation of VAT funds by the Association of Municipalities and Cities.
Stanivukovic addressed the crowd, expressing dissatisfaction with a recent meeting in the RS government building, which he claimed yielded no results. Supporters chanted his name and called government officials “thieves.” The mayor vowed to continue the fight, announcing further demonstrations with citizens from other cities.
“We're ready to compromise, but the president, the government, and other cities must contribute too,” he said, arguing that Banja Luka and Bijeljina face unfair treatment due to opposition-led local governments.
Mayors from other municipalities, including Bijeljina, Šamac, and Gacko, also voiced their concerns at the protests, criticizing the proposed tax distribution changes as detrimental to local development and governance.
